Hornsey under 10s put in a spirited display against a very strong Stoke Newington side on Saturday morning. Unbeaten Stoke Newington batted first but struggled to make much headway against accurate bowling from James Cory (2-0-6-1), Freddie Smith and George Horgan, while Alex Prior (3-0-9-2) took two wickets in a fine spell. With four overs to go, Stoke Newington were heading for a par score, but some powerful hitting from their final pair took them to a daunting 297. Jacob Auburn kept wicket very tidily.
In reply, Hornsey started well, with Freddie Smith hitting one memorable straight drive, but they were always up against it in the face of some fast and at times accurate bowling. Jacob Auburn and Alex Prior showed good technique, while Brunner Hahn added some energy to the middle order. However, in the end they fell short in the run chase.
