U10s v North Midds

April 26, 2019

23 April 2019 vs North Middlessex, home

First match of the season. Noah captained the side as well as wicketkeeping.

We lost the toss and North Midds put us in to bat. Leading from the front, captain Noah opened with Freddie. They both showed some excellent aggressive batting, smashing the opening North Midds attack for a number of boundaries. A couple of wickets undid a bit of the good work. The middle order pairs of Kai & Daniel E, and Jacob & James, continued the same theme - nice aggressive batting from all of them, unfortunately a wicket or two lost along the way. James in particular was hitting the ball hard, and his batting has come on a lot from last year. Brunner and Eva had good debut perfomances in their first matches, both enthusiatic, energetic and showed a lot of potential. Alex & Kai (again) closed off, with Alex showing excellent controlled aggression in his first match, hitting the ball hard, and also blocking when needed.

In the bowling, we were mostly tidy, but wides (as always with u10s) were the killer. Alex took a fantastic caught and bowled which really lifted the team.

In the end it was a very competitive loss. We scored more runs than North Midds, but the wickets we lost wiped that advantage (5 runs lost per wicket). It was a match which, on another day, we would have won.

Player of the match: Alex Prior.

Key points to remember: blocking the dangerous balls on stumps, calling when running between the wickets, grounding the bat.
