Hornsey IIIs v Wembley IIIs

Hornsey 182 from 44 overs
Wembley 183-5
Lost, Hornsey 0 points

Hornsey 3s suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing the toss and being asked to bat at Wembley.
The top order failed to trouble the scorers and a defiant 43 from Joe Jermotte backed up by an excellent 28 from Charlie Joseph gave us some credibility. Joe was struck on the elbow early in his innings, then retired hurt unable to grip his bat. He was replaced by Warren Duberry who looks an excellent find both with bat and ball. He scored a quick 25 before being given out LBW by their umpire who not also triggered Scott Haughton but called over after signalling a wide for the last ball of the over!!

Joe returned to join Charlie and they batted very well. Charlie batted very sensibly with Joe now restricted after straining his side. Enter Terry Sherlock who hit a fantastic 42 not out including 3 sixes, the last one of which was from the opening bowler who he dispatched over the hedge!
We were 50 runs short and not finishing the 50 overs was always going to make life difficult. It felt like last season when one more recognised batsman would have made a significant difference.

Nick Giles and Ashraf both took a wicket a piece in the first 2 overs to have them 9-2 but they then pressed on and raced away with it, punishing anything short.
Warren then bowled an excellent spell with the aussie beng quite glad he was out, caught at short leg. Despite being on 50 he looked very uncomfortable,as did the slips! - or maybe it was the sight of Tim fielding in terry's helmet that put him off. Anyway Tim had positioned himself very well to take the catch.
Warren then had the new batsman plumb three times in his next over, none of which were given. This put the game into a farce, with the umpire threatening to report anyone who questioned him, despite clearly being inept. He soured the game really and left the players very frustrated but also happy that Brucey and Disco were not there!!!
Away to North Midd next week we need to win the toss, bowl a better length and the top order need to get more runs.
Topic for discussion next week: Wembley captain reckons only way to win the league is batting second.
