An excellent win for the 3s at South Hampstead. Some highly dubious umpiring almost scuppered Hornsey who were 126-7 at one stage with 3 awful LBW decisions given against them, the final one given after no-one appealed. Technically this isn't out, so the bowler appealed after the decision. Disco grafted very hard for 40 on a slow track, and Joe Jemotte played the match winning innings of 58.
200 was a good score on that track, as the old pros thought about 160 was par.
South Hampstead were always slightly behind the clock. Their young opener struggled to either get out or keep the score moving and they were tied down for long periods. With the rate increasing, and wickets falling regularly they were faced with the decision of whether to block for a draw or go for the win. They appeared to have no communication amongst themselves as at sone stage it appeared one of the bats was going for the win and one was blocking for the draw. Enter Charlie Joseph who bowled very well and tempted the batsmen into indiscretions, and finished with 4-44. The last wicket fell in the penultimate over; a player who had dislocated a finger while fielding came to the crease to tray and block for the draw and was caught by Disco at silly mid off. Wickets also for Tim Waine (2), Johnny Bruce and Marty Tucker and two excellent run outs.
