Shepherds Bush CC v Hornsey Cricket Club 3rd Team on Sat 17 May 2008 at 13.00
Hornsey Cricket Club Won
The 3s were away to Shepherds' Bush 3s, and ended up playing at a hastily arranged replacement ground that looked more like a paddock on the old man's farm than a cricket ground. We won't even mention the state of the facilities.
Johnnie Simon lost the toss and we were put in to bat on a damp wicket in overcast conditions. However, after the loss of an early wicket, Jack Goldberg (63) and Alastair Thomas (57) put on over 100 for the second wicket to put Hornsey right on top. Jack batted particularly well, but his annoying desire to run quick singles will have to be addressed.
From 128/1 we suddenly found ourselves 170/8, but some gutsy batting from Jo Jermotte and Tim Waine (who both made 20-odd) got us up to a competitive 225/9dec off 49 overs.
225 turned out to be plenty as a top bowling performance had Sheperds' Bush all out for about 80 in less than 30 overs. Marty Tucker was the lead destroyer taking 7-23 (to follow up his 5-fer from the week before). He was well supported at the other end by Tim Waine, and by some excellent catching and fielding. A very good win for the team, and 14 points in the bag after two games.
