Harrow Town CC v Hornsey Cricket Club 3rd Team on Sat 27 Aug 2005 at
Hornsey Cricket Club Lost Lost be 8 wickets

Hornsey Come A Distant Third.

With Harrow needing ten points to help their promotion chase and Hornsey, with a weakened team, looking for a share of points or results elsewhere going their way. It was always going to be an interesting game that in the end failed not to disappoint….Harrow

No one would have quite predicted the force in which Harrow chased down Hornseys below par score of 186. With an opening stand of 105, Harrows number two, Jairam, delightfully bruised the Hornsey bowling attack with a collection of massive six’s over long on and mid wicket amongst an assortment of fours to most boundaries.

He was finally bowled by Tefsay as captain Peters truly mixed the bowling attack up. Spells from Duff, Emmerson Snr, Dr Field Good Welch, Chapman who had retired the gloves to Fleming and the regulars of Joseph, Tefsay and Giles. Giles being the pick of the bowlers amongst the devastation, going for 50-1 from 13 overs.

Despite a couple of chances being missed unprecedentedly Richard Emmerson and a bizarre opportunity for Chapman as the ball looped in the air from a Joseph delivery. Hornsey were never in the game and the game concluded in the 27th over.

Previously Hornsey had made hard work to take advantage of an eight man Harrow field, which slowly increased over the first hour. Welch and Chapman getting of to a patient start as poor Harrow fielding conceded extras, which top scored for the early part of the innings. The fifty coming in the 18th over by which time Welch (18) had been dismissed LBW. Jaz Cable showed increasing maturity as he ate up the overs. Once Chapman (18) had departed he was able to help build a partnership of 63 with Duff who returned a healthy 44 runs from 52 balls before falling caught.

From here on Hornsey lost 7 wickets for 50 runs. Emmerson Snr promoted up the order and partnering son Richard who both contributed boundaries. Cable and Fleming blew their chance to make in impact as old run out demons resurrected themselves, not for the first time at senior level or in the colts. Fleming selfishly left Cable to walk back to the changing rooms.

Peters and Tefsay registered a four each before leaving Joseph and Giles to pick up any remaining runs. Giles getting his Hornsey best score of 12 from 9 balls, a 13 runs partnership from 12 balls, before playing on trying to pull runs to the leg side.

A slugish display of batting from Hornsey and a brutal display of batting from Harrow all in complete contrast to the earlier game of the season.

Now ith the teams below Hornsey in the league table playing promotion chasing opposition, Hornseys future in division two should be secure. A win against Brentham would help secure it by our own doing.
