Hornsey Cricket Club Lost 5 Wickets
Hornsey continued there current slump with a 5 wicket defeat to Stanmore. Hornsey hoping to turn things around after previous weeks and pick up ten points, points that would see them sitting mid table. However it was not to be as the the batting demons from the Eastcote game came back to haunt them.
Charlton and Chapman opened and despite a slow start picked up runs but as ever it was not to last and Hornsey struggled to keep men at the crease and keep the score board ticking over. Cable continues to look full of promise whilst Bruce showed restraint unlike McKinnon who exhibited his usual cavalier approach to batting top scoring with 26. By this time Stanmore had put their spinner on with devastating effect. Richard Welch back in the team and hoping to avoid a hatrick duck promptly received his hat trick duck. From then on the middle order and tail collapsed no heroics from Emmerson this week. Hornsey all out for 114.
With rare Hornsey spectators, Stubby and Scotie. Hornsey went to field in the hope that precision bowling and disciplined fielding would recover the game in Hornseys favour. In the second over the first break through came as Giles, who bowled magnificently, had the opener caught by McKinnon for a duck at square cover. Stanmore looked far from the most capable batting line up as Hornsey steadily picked up wickets, Browne fizzing the ball through to the keeper who took a single catch and Charlton taking two blinding catches. Yet Stanmore were capable of picking off the runs from the measly Hornsey total in 28th over.
