Hornsey Colts Success!
The season so far has brought a number of successes to the Hornsey Colts section. Below is a run down of how the teams have faired so far.
The U13A side have won the Middlesex Central First Division with a game to spare after beating Primrose Hill this week, see the Colts section for the match report. They now go onto the full County play-offs as a seeded side, hoping to keep the team together despite everyone’s holiday commitments!
The U11s have won Hornsey’s first ever area Cup having won the Central Area Cup final this week against local rivals North Middlesex. The U11s will now play the North area champions in the semi-final of the Middlesex Cup, date and venue to be announced.
The U15A side have won Division 2 of the Central Area League with a game to spare, thus securing promotion to the top division for next year and also entry this year into the County play-offs.
The U11A side is currently unbeaten in Division 1 of the Central Area league but may need to win their last two matches to secure the title; this is because they lost two matches to the rain.
The U10 side are currently unbeaten in the group stages of the Gubby Allen Trophy, the County U10 cup which culminates with a final at Lord’s. We won this trophy in 2009 and were beaten finalists in 2010 and the current team are keeping up our recent winning tradition.
Our B teams are performing solidly at all age groups, particularly the U13B side whose roller coaster season had seen a series of bizarre and miraculous finishes. See all the gory details in the U13B section of the website.
Well done to all of our teams for what is turning out to be an outstanding year! Keep up the good work.

Hornsey cricketer Ed Waite is running the Geneva Marathon on Sunday 15th May in aid of Help For Heroes.
The charity has helped and continues to help many friends and ex colleagues of Ed who have suffered injuries whilst serving in Afghanistan.
Ed, a former Royal Marine, said: "Every little bit of money helps, so if you do have a spare fiver tucked away somewhere it would be really appreciated by some top blokes!"

Hornsey cricketer Graham Allen and his brother Robin met Indian test legend Farokh Engineer in 1973 as two young cricket enthusiasts at a supporters evening in Lancashire. 38 years on Graham got in touch with Farokh via his biographer and sure enough Farokh invited us over to his house in Cheshire for coffee and a tour of his huge memorabilia collection.

Hornsey hosts The Eric Rivers Quiz Night in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association
Hornsey Cricket Club decided to hold its pre Xmas quiz in conjunction with Motor Neurone Awareness fundraising. Eric River’s condition has brought the club into direct contact with MND, so what a delight to have a huge turnout and the man himself Eric, resplendent with walking cane, manning the pumps.
The 8 rounds were a real tease ranging from silhouettes of cartoon characters, to rivers running through counties and of course the inevitable cricket round. There were some dark horses during the evening - Joel
Gregory’s team were silent assassins. Johnny Marr was always a favourite especially with Johnny Marr senior in tow. Johnny Bruce was pitted against his wife and was outdone - not that he’d admit it. John Sutherland was a godsend on world politics, events and figures. Colin Nash disputed a cricket question, The Waites enjoyed their wine, Chet and Karen had an evening without Cara, the youngsters in the club shone. Where was Rob Devenney?
We had carefully choreographed joker rounds - Brucey and I went head to head on the cricket round - 9 a piece…..
The fundraising was an event in itself with all the background work by Marty Tucker, Dean Collings, Sarah Collings, Mark Penkith, Oli Yew and Ed Waite paying off handsomely - a final figure of £1500 was raised via various auctioned items and a raffle (with thanks to Middlesex County Cricket Club,
Virgin Active Crouch End, various club members and Eric Rivers to name but a few for their kind donations).
Compere was grizzly throaty Dean who ran the evening with aniron grip, bellowing instructions only once - heaven knows how his voice held out.
A great evening of camaraderie, fun and nonsense but with a serious message delivered to a hushed crowd by Eric, conveying movingly how his world had changed.
You could have heard a pin drop.
